PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use.
As a landlord, you have a duty to ensure all electrical appliances provided to your tenants are in a safe condition. Although PAT testing itself is not a legal requirement, it is the best and easiest way to ensure your appliances are safe.
As a landlord or estate agent, it is also essential that you instruct someone competent to carry out the test.
To be deemed competent, the Portable Appliance Tester must have the ability to operate PAT testing equipment, the ability to properly understand the test results, and more.
At NSI, every engineer is a highly trained PAT testing professional. We make the process as simple and easy as possible for you. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at our 730+ 5-star reviews!
The frequency of the inspection and testing depends on the type of equipment and the property. In terms of PAT Testing for landlords, we would suggest that PAT testing is carried out yearly or upon tenancy changeover.
As a landlord, any electrical appliances provided within the property, including in-built fridges, freezers, dishwashers, and anything else with a plug, should be PAT tested yearly.
Following the test, you should receive an inventory, which lists every tested appliance and assigns a “sticker” number to them. A PAT test cannot be deemed complete without this inventory.
PAT Testing prices start from just £75 + VAT (*subject to location).
