Since April 2021, every rental property in England has been required to have a valid electrical safety certificate as per “The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020”. We recognise that time has passed since this was introduced, however, if you are a Landlord and you have not yet acquired an EICR, you may be held liable for any electrical faults in the property. This change has brought England closer to the “Housing (Scotland) Act 2014”, in which the EICR has been similarly enforced on rental properties in Scotland since December 2015.
